The chain that
tells your story.

Worn by Bavarian men for centuries. Still the most interesting thing on any outfit.

A charivari is not an accessory. It's a statement of identity — a chain of charms worn across the front of lederhosen, each piece carrying meaning. Hunters wore them with trophies from their kills. Farmers wore them as status symbols. Mountain men wore them as talismans. Today, they're the detail that separates a real tracht outfit from a rental costume.

What is a charivari?
A centuries-old tradition.
Still worn today.
The charivari is a decorative chain worn across the front of lederhosen, attached to the belt loops or suspender buttons. It originated as a watch chain — Bavarian men would hang hunting trophies, coins, and charms from it over time, turning it into a personal record of their life and achievements.

Ancient charivaris can be worth thousands of euros and are passed down through generations. They were never bought — they were earned, gifted, or inherited. Today, modern charivaris by makers like Sima carry on the tradition with authentic motifs: staghorn, skulls, beer steins, acorns, and hunting symbols. It's the one piece of tracht that's uniquely yours.
How to wear it
Simple to attach.
Impossible to ignore.
1
Attach to belt loops or suspender buttons — most charivaris clip on with a lobster clasp or snap ring on each end. No tools needed.
2
Drape across the front — it should hang loosely across the bib or front panel of your lederhosen, charms facing outward.
3
Length matters — a standard charivari runs 30–35cm. Longer chains carry more charms and make a bolder statement.
4
There are no rules on motifs — pick what means something to you. Beer stein, skull, staghorn, acorn — the tradition is personal.
